Over the last few years I have dabbled with several avenues of game design, but it is only in the last year or so that I've really gotten a taste for it, and have been working in my spare to time to develop skills and knowledge to enable me to design work for games. I have developed a real passion for textures, working mainly on a community supported MMO developed inside Linden Labs' Second Life, alongside some very talented individuals. The wide range of hardware capabilities interacting with this world mean developing content for it is much akin to web design. Elements must be economic in terms of resource consumption, and as such, much of my texture work is developed on a 512 x 512 format or smaller. This of course limits the amount of detail that can be contained in a texture, but has entitled me to teach myself tricks and techniques to aesthetically overcome low resolution limitations and develop rich, tactile textures and create immersive and visually lush virtual environments. Character design is something I've enjoyed in 2-dimensions since I was a child, and now it comes with a great sense of achievement that not only can I develop these characters digitally in 3-dimensions, but can then animate them, make them interact with environments, other characters and so on. This gallery documents highlights of my exploration into game design, and allows you to observe the development of my first full independent game via Macromedia Flash.
